Breathe Well, Live Well
🫁 Re-establishing a balanced breathing pattern proves to be a potent strategy for managing stress and conquering Air Hunger. Anxiety is complex and I’ll be the first to endorse mental health counseling but combining that with Breathwork methods offer a pathway to regain mastery and reestablish the ideal equilibrium between oxygen and CO2 in our system. It’s how you can address the physical cycle of stress.
🧘♂️ Embracing the scientific realm of breath can be a formidable asset for enhancing your physical, mental, and emotional well-being. 😰 When we’re in the grip of stress or anxiety, we often unintentionally fall into the trap of over-breathing (this includes hyperventilation). This excessive inhalation leads to a reduction in carbon dioxide (CO2) levels within our bloodstream. But why is CO2 so critical?
💨 CO2 serves a crucial role in maintaining the pH balance of our blood and tissues. Exhaling too much CO2 sends signals to our bodies of an imbalance, triggering a perceived need for more oxygen. This, in turn, manifests as the sensation of “Air Hunger.”
🔑The key is that it’s not about needing more oxygen; it’s about retaining the appropriate levels of CO2 and retraining our sensitivity to it. Techniques such as slow breathing, gentle retention, guided meditation, and diaphragmatic breathing can help us override the urge to consume excess air.
